But ... why mylocal.radio?
This is a question we often get - why should we use mylocal.radio instead of Spotify, Apple Music or some other paid music streaming service, the local radio station, your own digital downloads, CDs or vinyl?
There are plenty of reasons ... here are a few key ones:
mylocal.radio has been specifically created for Australian pubs, clubs and other venues.
Those other streaming services have been designed to appeal to a mass market across the world. I suspect that they don't even know what an Aussie pub is, much less visited one.
mylocal.radio's music is hand selected by our Australian team and only includes the very best music of the past 75 years.
There's no algorithm deciding what gets played. We have no incentive to play new music that is being pushed by the publishing companies, regardless of its suitability to the front bar of a pub in regional Australia. You are far more likely to hear a song on mylocal.radio that draws a comment of "I haven't heard that song in years" than "can you please skip that song".
mylocal.radio is produced by a small business in regional Australia not a multi-billion dollar business based somewhere overseas.
We are fiercely proud to be based in Geelong, Victoria. Spotify is based in Sweden. Apple is based in California. Amazon is based in Seattle.
Which of these options do you reckon knows more about Aussie pubs, clubs, cafes and other venues?
mylocal.radio is FREE to listen to and has no ads.
You CAN get free versions of these streaming services if you don't mind having your listening constantly interrupted by ads. Your only other option is to use the paid versions of these services but every (unnecessary) dollar you pay to these streaming services goes overseas and is a dollar you no longer have.
mylocal.radio has no tricky terms and conditions - you can listen to it at home, in the car and, importantly, in your pub.
According to Perplexity (our favourite AI search engine), there are almost 3000 words in Amazon Music's T&Cs. For Apple Music, it is around 8400 words. Spotify wins the T&Cs prize, though, with over 8500 words.
Have you read them?
We think the most important words in each of the T&Cs for these streaming services is that, in each case, your paid subscription (which typically costs around $200 per year) is that you are not allowed to use your personal subscription for anything except personal use. If you use it in your venue, you are breaching the terms and conditions.
Yes, you can pay more a commercial Spotify subscription (about $60 per month - that's around $700 per year!). Apple and Amazon don't even offer a business version.
Yes, you should have a OneMusic licence if you play mylocal.radio in your venue
Guess what - it is exactly the same licence that you should have if you use these other streaming services, your own downloaded / purchased music or even your own local radio station.
So ... in summary:
- Play mylocal.radio in your venue and get the very best music of the past 75 years, curated by a small business based in regional Australia, without paying any money to us, without being interrupted by ads and without breaching any terms and conditions.
OR
- Choose one of those other options and get the music that some bot-driven algorithm chooses, often influenced by the marketing departments of record companies, continue to pay at least $200 per year (or use the free ad-riddled version), whilst breaching terms and conditions and sending your hard-earned money to multi-billion companies that based overseas.
We might be biased but we think mylocal.radio is radio as its should be. Check us out by downloading the FREE app from the App Store or Google Play. You can also play mylocal.radio from any page of our web site.
